ABOUT US
The African Engineering
Education Association (AEEA) holds the Vice Presidency of the
International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES).
The AEEA will be co-hosting the American Society of Engineering
Education Global Colloquium in Cape Town, South Africa, on 19-23
October 2008.
In September 2002, the Federal Government of Nigeria
lent her support to the commencement of the African Regional
Conference on Engineering Education (ARCEE) which took place at the
University of Lagos, Nigeria. In the desire to give the conference an
identity, a Steering Committee was formed in 2004 during the 2nd
ARCEE at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Among other things, the
Committee the Committee was to decide on an appropriate name under
which the African stakeholders in engineering education would meet
biennially.
At the Opening of the 3rd ARCEE that was held
in Pretoria, South Africa, in 2006, the SA Honourable Minister of
Science and Technology called upon the conference delegates to
establish an African Voice for engineering education that would,
among other tasks, ensure that a single African and International
Engineering Education programme is followed. The AEEA was then formed
as a conference outcome. The AEEA covers all the five African
sub-regions.
The 4th ARCEE was held in Dar es Salam,
Tanzania, in April 2008 with 110 participants from 14 countries
within and outside Africa. One of the resolutions of the conference
is that the AEEA should develop a database on all engineering and
training institutions in Africa; indicating available capacity and
areas of strength with a view to identifying areas where capacity
building is required.
